Adsense Advisory: From Today’s Earnings to Today’s Estimated Earnings

Thursday 10 December 2009 @ 9:10 pm

If you are monetizing you site via Google Adsense, you may have noticed that the previous label “Today’s Earnings” was changed to “Today’s Estimated Earnings”. Before you made any conclusion read what Google Adsense Team has to say.

Google Adsense

Today we’re changing some messaging in the AdSense interface concerning your earnings, and we wanted to give you some more information on why we’re making this change.

In order to be more transparent about how our system calculates earnings, we’ve added the words “Estimated” and “Finalized” next to “Earnings” throughout your account. Rest assured these terminology changes don’t reflect a change to the way your finalized earnings are calculated. It’s simply intended to give you a clearer idea of what’s our estimation of your earnings and what’s finalized.

As you may have noticed in the past, the earnings on the Overview and Advanced Reports pages may sometimes differ from the earnings listed on your Payment History page. This is because earnings on your Overview and Advanced Reports pages reflect initial estimations based on our records. We aren’t able to provide finalized earnings on these pages because they still need to be verified for accuracy, a process that takes place a few days after the end of every month. The finalized sum is then posted on your Payment History page by the 10th of the next month.

While we can’t say how much these amounts would differ for any one publisher, most publishers will not see a significant difference. Again, please keep in mind that this is only a display change, and that your finalized earnings will continue to be calculated and credited to you in the same way as before.

Whew, I thought they are changing the way we received the earnings are posted. :-)

Google Sues Work At Home Scams

Tuesday 8 December 2009 @ 3:37 pm

You might already came across of a sales pitch that Google is hiring work at home workers offering more than $300 Dollars per day. Well, if you are one of those fellows who bought the work at home kit, sorry to inform you that it is a scam and now Google Inc., is suing the company for making false advertisement.

Google filed a lawsuit in Salt Lake City against Pacific WebWorks and other, unnamed defendants for alleging trademark infringement and dilution, unfair competition, federal cyberpiracy, and violation of consumer sales practices.

Here’s a screen shot of the alleged Work At Home Scam. Image courtesy of Google.

Google Sues Work At Home Scams

“This action seeks to stop a widespread Internet advertising scam that is defrauding the public by misusing the famous Google brand,” the suit says. “The scam victimizes unsuspecting consumers by prominently displaying the famous Google mark, by suggesting sponsorship by the plaintiff Google Inc., and by urging consumers to obtain a kit supposedly showing them how to make money working from home with Google.”

How does the scam work? First they will tell the consumers that Google is hiring and they are offering $300 dollars or more per day as the compensation. But here is the catch, the consumer can only know the full details once they bought the kit from the company.

According to the lawsuit, the consumers are asked to pay for an instant access or for a shipping and handling fee, supposedly tells you on how you can make money from the program. However, according of victims, they either do not get the DVD, they received the DVD’s that contain viruses or they get access to unrelated sites.

At times consumers, who purchased via credit card are billed $50 to $79 dollars per month. “These scams play upon some powerful methods of persuasion. Not just by using Google’s logo, but we often see ‘as seen on CNN, Fox News and ABC,’” he said in an interview. “I don’t know if people understand how easy it is to copy an image file on a Web page. They also try to use social proof by creating a fake blog, with a photo of the blogger from his wedding, the new car he bought, and explaining how he lost his job. They go to great lengths to string people along.”

According to CNET news website, Barbara Ford filed a lawsuit to Pacific WebWorks. She claimed that she clicked an ad on her AOL program with a fake news article how one woman made $5,000 a month with the program. She alleges she paid $1.97 for a “Google Business Kit” and that her credit card was also charged $79.90. She called the company to request a refund and never received one, according to the lawsuit.

It is about time that the Big G starts to sues scams like this. I hope that the government will also start in patrolling internet business on the Internet where the primary targets are the consumers.

Google Chrome Browser Released

Friday 5 September 2008 @ 2:08 am

Google has released yesterday a new browser called Google Chrome for Windows XP and Vista. I have downloaded it and installed it to see how my sites will look in the new browser.

Everything looks fine except for one glitch: overlapping of the social bookmarking buttons after each every post. This is still tolerable since I can make the tweak on the css (I hope).

With regards to using Chrome as my default browser it is still a no-no. Although that Chrome proves to be much faster than Firefox and IE (see the review of Stephen Shankland), it still lacks the features needed by web developers and internet marketers. I am referring to themes, add-ons and plug-ins that use to customized browsing enhancements. Firefox contains tons of these features from third party developers.

Perhaps in the future if the Chrome will be supported by the plug-in developers, I might use it as a default browser but until then I will stick to Firefox.

I just hope that the Chrome browser conforms to W3C standards so that webmasters will not be developing “css hacks” for new browsers.

By the way if you need to view your website in different browsers, you may visit browsershots.org. The site will render a view of your website in multiple browsers.
